Blackjack Terms
Bust: To exceed a total of 21.
Double Down: A black jack term for taking only one card from the dealer and then doubling your bet.
Hit: To take another card.
Push: When the player and the dealer have un-busted hands with the same point total. No money changes hands.
Splitting Pairs: When two cards of the same value are dealt to the player, they have the option of splitting their cards into two separate hands and placing an equal bet on each hand.
Stand: To refrain from taking any more cards.
Surrender: To give up half of your wager to not have to complete the hand.
Burn Card: The card placed on the bottom of the deck or in the discard tray after a shuffle and cut.
Card Counting: Keeping track of which cards have been played since the shuffle.
Hole Card: The dealer's face down card.
Shoe: A plastic or wooden device that holds multiple decks of cards to be dealt.
Hard Hand: Any black jack hand that does not contain an ace valued at 11.
Soft Hand: Any black jack hand that contains an ace valued at eleven.
Pair: A black jack term for having your first having two cards of the same value as the first two cards dealt.
Up Card: The dealer's card that is face up.
